What to Expect When You’re Expecting a Website
Planning: Discovery
Just like parents-to-be start to think about adopting healthy habits and planning for the future at the beginning of a pregnancy, the discovery phase is designed to give your website the best possible chance for success. The kick-off meeting is a lot like a pre-pregnancy visit to the doctor–you probably have an idea of what you want your website to be, but you’ll have lots of questions for us, and we’ll have lots of questions for you.
Conception: Information Architecture and Design
While every baby is beautiful, we can’t say the same about websites. Unlike in a pregnancy, when creating a website you get to choose its strengths, abilities and appearance. (We believe this is highly desirable for websites, but not at all for babies.) DNA establishes the developing embryo’s future as a boy or girl, with brown eyes or blue. The information architecture and design of a website establish its framework and appearance.
Gestation: Development
A lot of pregnancy involves waiting, often impatiently. When will that baby get here? Will I ever see my feet again? But behind the scenes, the baby is actively growing and developing. In the meantime, there is so much to get ready–cribs, car seats and plenty of onesies. While our developers are busy creating your website, that’s the perfect time for you to be collecting and creating content: the text and images that will fill the pages of your beautiful new site.
Birth: Launch
As any mother will tell you, even the most perfect birth involves some pain. Getting a website up and running smoothly can involve some pain, too. As your doctor, we do our best to make sure that the process is as painless as possible. Website labor involves rigorous bug and browser testing, loading all that content you collected and making sure everything works correctly. By the time the site is ready to go live, it’s a smooth and simple process, with only a few easy “pushes” to welcome your website to the world.
Taking the Baby Home: Maintenance
It’s a website! Now what do you do with it? Just like a baby, a website needs care and attention. Keeping the content fresh is the most important job for a new website parent. Sometimes, the baby needs a check up. A website may need software updates and bug fixes, and we’ll be there to help.
By working with you throughout the process, together we’ll create a beautiful website that can live a long and happy life.
